Ako Tahi Tamariki is designed for parents, caregivers, and whānau who want to use more te reo Māori at home with their tamariki. You don't need to be fluent, you just need a starting point. This app gives you the everyday phrases for bath time, bed time, kai time, and play time so that te reo Māori becomes a natural part of your home life.

Ako Tahi Tamariki is designed for parents and caregivers, not tamariki themselves. It gives adults the phrases and confidence to speak te reo Māori with their tamariki throughout the day — at meal times, during play, at bedtime, and everything in between.

You don’t need to be fluent to use this app. Start where you are and build from there. Younger tamariki up to school age will benefit most, though older tamariki benefit too.

This app is being developed with support from Te Huinga, a Māori language funding organisation dedicated to growing the number of te reo Māori speakers in Aotearoa.

What age group is Ako Tahi Tamariki designed for?
Ako Tahi Tamariki is primarily designed for parents and caregivers, not tamariki themselves. It gives adults the phrases and confidence to speak te reo Māori with their tamariki at home. Younger children up to school age will benefit most, though older tamariki benefit too.
Do I need to know te reo Māori to use it?
No. That is exactly why this app exists. You can start from zero and learn simple home phrases for everyday moments. The goal is to help you use more reo at home, not to make you fluent overnight.
When will Ako Tahi Tamariki be available?
Ako Tahi Tamariki is currently in development. With the support of Te Huinga, we are working hard to bring it to life. Register your interest to be notified when it launches.
How is it different from the main Ako Tahi app?
The main Ako Tahi app is a broad phrase library for everyday life. Ako Tahi Tamariki is focused specifically on home and family language, the phrases you use with young children every day. It is curated for that context, more focused, and designed with the parent-child relationship in mind.
